About our Speaker - Paul Andrus
Originally from New York, Paul
Andrus, now a resident of Arizona has studied art in
both the U.S. and Europe. Trained by the Navy as an
illustrator, he went on to study painting in Paris,
Copenhagen, New York, and Chicago, acquiring three
Master's degrees in Art in the process. The last degree,
he obtained from Northwestern University in Chicago. He
has exhibited in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. His
paintings and pastels have been published in the U.S. by
Northlight Books and in England by Quattro Press. A
Master Pastelist, he was a founding member of the
Michigan Pastel Association and a member of the Oil
Pastel Assoc. of America, the Degas Pastel Society, East
Valley Art Guild, and others. He has numerous
awards for artistic excellence. He is currently a
professor of art at the University of Advancing
Technologies and Mesa Community College. Paul
is a colleague of Art Professor Ron Floyd,
EVAG President. Paul studied abroad at
the University of Paris, The École des Beaux-Arts, and
the Royal Academy. In Paris, where he studied
the great Impressionist painters and learned that they
were students of nature, color, and light, trying to
catch 'a moment in time'. While studying in Chicago with
Ed Paschke, he learned about the electric intensity of
color. Color makes the canvas come alive with mystery
and beauty. "This is what I try to accomplish with my
work."

Artist Opportunity
The Riverview Center has asked the Guild
to decorate a 300 foot section of store fronts that are
not built out yet with a colorful mural. The storefronts
are covered with sheets of plywood that would need to be
painted to create the mural and the center will furnish
the paint. The mural area is part of the ArtWalk area
and would be visible to 1000's of ArtWalk visitors. A
number of idea have been floated including getting high school or
junior high art classes involved, charter school
programs, boy scouts, senior citizens to paint it, and
using artists from ASU, or just soliciting artist input.
Mesa Riverview Center would like to have it painted
during the ArtWalk for additional promotional
opportunities. It will probably take several ArtWalks to
finish. The Guild is also prepared to jury and award
prizes for the mural sections if done by different
schools, etc. We are also looking for someone to head up
this project, and you do not have to be a Guild member
to volunteer. I am looking for feedback, ideas, and
possibilities. Email Ron Floyd at
rfloydaz@cox.net with any ideas...Project can start
during July ArtWalk. |
